Sensitization of rotational behavior produced by a single exposure to cocaine.

چکیده
In rats with a unilateral 6-OHDA lesion of the substantia nigra a single exposure to cocaine significantly enhanced the ipsiversive rotational behavior produced by a second injection given one week later. It is concluded that it is not necessary to repeatedly administer psychomotor stimulant drugs to produce long-lasting changes in brain and behavior.

Effects of sex and estrogen on behavioral sensitization to cocaine in rats.
Estrogen rapidly enhances dopamine (DA) activity in the striatum and nucleus accumbens as well as behavioral responses to psychomotor stimulants in female rats but not males. This experiment was conducted to investigate the role of pulsatile estrogen treatment on and sex differences in the development and expression of sensitization of cocaine-induced rotational behavior in rats with unilateral...
متن کاملFirst evidence that drugs of abuse produce behavioral sensitization and cross sensitization in planarians.
Behavioral sensitization in mammals, including humans, is sensitive to factors such as administration route, testing environment, and pharmacokinetic confounds, unrelated to the drugs themselves that are difficult to eliminate. Simpler animals less susceptible to these confounding influences may be advantageous substitutes for studying sensitization. We tested this hypothesis by determining whe...
متن کاملLong-term facilitation of amphetamine-induced rotational behavior and striatal dopamine release produced by a single exposure to amphetamine: sex differences.
Amphetamine (AMPH)-induced rotational behavior in non-lesioned rats and AMPH-stimulated dopamine (DA) release from striatal tissue fragments in vitro were used to study the long-term effects of a single injection of AMPH on activity in the mesostriatal DA system. A single injection of a low dose of AMPH (1.25 mg/kg) greatly enhanced the rotational behavior produced by a second injection of AMPH...
متن کاملA single cocaine exposure enhances both opioid reward and aversion through a ventral tegmental area-dependent mechanism.
Repeated exposure to drugs of abuse produces forms of experience-dependent plasticity including behavioral sensitization. Although a single exposure to many addicting substances elicits locomotor sensitization, there is little information regarding the motivational effects of such single exposures. This study demonstrates that a single cocaine exposure enhances both rewarding and aversive forms...
متن کاملCocaine Sensitization Increases Kyphosis and Modulates Neural Activity in Adult Nulliparous Rats
Although data from both animals and humans suggests that adult cocaine use can have long term effects on behavior, it is unknown if prior cocaine use affects future maternal behavior in nulliparous females. In the current study, cocaine or saline was administered to adult female rats for 10 days, the animals were withdrawn from cocaine for 7 days, and the females were then exposed to donor pups...
